Kaikoura

Kaikoura  & Coastal road south.   22, 23.02.2012

We stayed next to the Pier restaurant & met a really nice couple from Perth who were celebrating their 40th anniversary. They had a few of Terry’s Butterscotch Schnapps before heading off to a celebration dinner. Our meal at the Pier was earlier, they were booked there but when Terry told them about the awful dry small crayfish he had been served, & the couldn’t care less attitude, they decided to go elsewhere & had a great meal.

Morning view & time for a haircut.

Coastal Road

The road & the railway run parallel to each other right on the coast towards Christchurch. Our campsite for the night was at Paia Point. The German girls next to us got up at dawn to try & spot dolphins or whales but they were disappointed.

Centre  Two road tunnels & one train tunnel.  Bottom right    Our neighbour at Paia Pt.

  1. Beginning to feel a little envious now – you two are such adventurers and make it look so easy driving so far – takes us all our time to drive from Douglas to Ramsey! Looking forward to more adventures from you. Sandra x

    1. A two hour drive is nothing to us. We have stops along the way & the lack of vehicles on the road down here is great.

  2. If we drove for 2 hours here in IOM we would be in the sea. What fabulous scenery you have in NZ and you are seeing it the very best way by motor home. Keep on trucking.Love Carolyn x

  3. Akaroa is gorgeous. We stayed in a cottage like the ones in the photographs ,when I went down for my cooking class.
It is all stunning. Raining here today and humid. xxx Pat
